A Physics home tutor in Pune is most useful from Class 9 to 12, when Physics stops being descriptive and turns into numericals, derivations and graphs. This page covers where students get stuck, how Physics differs by board, what a good tutor does, and how home tuition fits around JEE, NEET and MHT-CET.
Why Physics feels hard: three different skills
Physics asks for three separate skills, and a student can be good at one and lost in another:
- Concepts: knowing why a ball thrown upwards slows down, or why current divides in a parallel circuit.
- Numericals: turning a word problem into an equation, rearranging it and keeping units consistent. This is where most marks go missing.
- Derivations and graphs: reproducing a result step by step, and reading a slope or an area under a graph.
The Maths underneath matters too. CBSE Class 11 Physics treats motion in a straight line with calculus as well as graphs, early in the year, while limits and derivatives come later in the Maths syllabus. A tutor who teaches the small piece of Maths needed, at the moment it is needed, takes away much of the fear.
Physics class by class
| Class | Main topics | Where students struggle |
|---|---|---|
| Class 9-10 | Motion, force, gravitation, work and energy, sound, light, electricity and its magnetic effects | Equations of motion, ray diagrams, circuit numericals |
| Class 11 | Measurement, kinematics, laws of motion, work and energy, rotation, gravitation, properties of matter, thermodynamics, oscillations and waves | Vectors, free-body diagrams, rotational motion |
| Class 12 | Electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction and AC, optics, modern physics, semiconductors | Electrostatics and magnetism problems, optics derivations |
In CBSE's 2026-27 Class 12 theory paper, electrostatics and current electricity carry 16 of the 70 marks, magnetism with induction and AC 17, and optics with electromagnetic waves 18. In Class 11, units and measurement plus kinematics, the first three chapters, carry 23 of the 70 marks, so a slow start is expensive. Rotational motion usually needs extra time too.
How Physics differs by board
- CBSE: NCERT textbooks. In Class 9 and 10, Physics is part of Science. In Class 11 and 12 it is its own subject, with a 70-mark theory paper and 30 marks of practical work: two experiments, a record, an activity, an investigatory project and a viva. See our CBSE page.
- Maharashtra State Board: in Class 9 and 10, Physics sits inside Science and Technology. In Class 11 and 12 (HSC) it is a separate subject taught from Balbharati textbooks, usually in a junior college.
- ICSE and ISC: Physics is taught separately from Class 9 and is one of the three Science papers in the ICSE exam, continuing as ISC Physics in Class 11 and 12.
- IGCSE (Cambridge 0625): every student sits a multiple-choice paper (30%), a theory paper (50%) and either a practical test or an Alternative to Practical paper (20%). Core students can achieve grades C to G, Extended students A* to G. More on our IGCSE page.
- IB: Diploma Programme Physics at standard or higher level, including an internally assessed scientific investigation that a tutor can guide but must not write.
What to look for in a Physics tutor
- Solves a numerical in front of you step by step, with units on every line
- Explains the logic of a derivation, not just the steps from memory
- Is at ease with the Maths, especially vectors and basic calculus in Class 11 and 12
- Knows your board's practical, project and viva requirements
- Has taught your child's class and board recently
- Sets problems your child hasn't seen, not only the solved textbook examples
How Physics tuition sessions usually run
For Class 9 and 10, two or three sessions a week of about an hour is usually enough. For Class 11 and 12, three sessions of 60 to 90 minutes gives room for both theory and problems.
A good session clears one idea with a worked example, then your child solves graded problems while the tutor watches the working, not just the answer. Your child should build their own formula sheet and a list of derivations, and revisit both every week. A timed test at the end of each chapter, marked the way the board marks, shows whether the numericals are sticking.
Physics home tuition, JEE, NEET and MHT-CET
Class 11 and 12 Physics is tested in JEE Main, in NEET UG and in both the PCM and PCB groups of MHT-CET, so the stakes feel high. TutorUp is for school tuition, not entrance coaching. A home tutor makes sure the board syllabus is properly understood, which entrance preparation depends on, but it is not a replacement for entrance-level practice.
If your child also attends a coaching class, ask the tutor to focus on board papers and the gaps coaching leaves, rather than repeat it. Our guide to Class 12 boards and entrance exams explains how to balance the two.
When to start Physics tuition
For Class 11, start in the first month. Measurement, kinematics and laws of motion come first and everything after builds on them; a student lost by the first unit test struggles to catch up without help. For Class 12, start before electrostatics is finished.
For Class 9 and 10, start when numericals in motion or electricity begin going wrong. If your child is in the Class 10 board year, our Class 10 study timetable shows how to fit Physics revision into the week.
Finding a Physics tutor near you in Pune
Class 11 and 12 students juggle school or junior college and often a coaching class, so you may need a late-evening or weekend slot. Physics at this level is specialist teaching, so if nobody suitable is very close, widen your radius a little rather than settle. Post your requirement with the board, class, chapters and slots; families in Kharadi and across Pune can browse verified Physics tutors nearby and request a demo.
