Boards and schools in Kothrud
Kothrud has Marathi-medium and English-medium schools and a mix of boards. City International School Kothrud, on D.P. Road, is one CBSE-affiliated school in the area, up to Class 10, while the Marathi-medium schools, like most in Maharashtra, follow the Maharashtra State Board. A tutor who suits a neighbour's child may not suit yours, so give the board and medium when you post.
For a State Board child, make sure a tutor knows the SSC paper pattern, not just the textbook. Our SSC board exam preparation guide explains what a Class 10 year should look like.
Semi-English students: what to look for in a Kothrud home tutor
In a semi-English class, Maths and Science are taught in English while most other subjects stay in Marathi. The gap shows up when a child moves to an English-medium junior college, or simply has to write in English a Science answer they understood in Marathi. Ask at the demo whether the tutor will explain in Marathi when needed but make your child answer in English, aloud and on paper.
If written English itself is the gap, an English tutor once or twice a week can do more than extra Science.
Getting around Kothrud: Karve Road, Paud Road and Vetal Tekdi
Kothrud is laid out along two main roads: Karve Road, which runs from Deccan through Kothrud to Warje, and Paud Road, which heads west past Vanaz towards Chandani Chowk. The Aqua Line metro stops at Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Paud Phata and S.N.D.T. College on its way to Deccan, so a tutor coming from the centre of Pune may arrive by metro and walk the last stretch.
Watch the northern edge. Vetal Tekdi separates Kothrud from Pashan and Gokhalenagar, so a tutor on the other side can look close on a map but has to go round the hill. Ask which way they would come and how long it takes at 6:30pm, not at noon.
Evenings around Karve Road and Paud Phata slow down, and a tutor with back-to-back students will usually try to keep families along one route. If you can offer an earlier or later slot than the 6pm rush, say so in your requirement. It can bring in tutors who would otherwise be busy.
Redevelopment, older societies and where to sit
Much of Kothrud is older cooperative housing societies, and a lot of the new building here is those societies being redeveloped into taller blocks. If your building is going into redevelopment and you are moving to a rented flat for a while, tell tutors early. Even a short move can change who is closest, and it is better to choose someone who can reach both addresses than to switch tutors in the middle of a board year.
Older buildings usually have a watchman's register rather than a visitor app, and flats can be compact. If a redevelopment site next door is noisy in the evening, pick the quietest shared room and keep the TV off, or keep one session a week for a quieter weekend morning. If you live south of Karve Road towards the river, the Karve Nagar and Warje page may describe your side better.
