Maharashtra State Board home tutors in Pune

Looking for Maharashtra State Board home tutors in Pune? TutorUp shows verified tutors near your home who teach the state syllabus, up to SSC in Class 10 and HSC in Class 12, closest first. Here is what the board asks of students, how medium of instruction affects tuition, and what to look for in a tutor.

A Maharashtra State Board home tutor in Pune should teach from the Balbharati textbooks, know the SSC and HSC paper patterns, and be comfortable with your child's medium of instruction, whether English, semi-English or Marathi. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has its headquarters in Pune, and its schools are found across PMC and PCMC, from long-running Marathi-medium schools in the older parts of the city to English-medium schools in the newer suburbs.

How SSC and HSC work

  • Textbooks. Balbharati, the state's textbook bureau in Pune, publishes the textbooks, and board papers are written around them. The textbook, its activities and its exercises come before any guide or digest.
  • SSC (Class 10). Most subjects are 80 marks for the written paper and 20 marks for orals, practicals or internal assessment, which take place at school before the written papers.
  • HSC (Class 12). Students choose a stream, usually science, commerce or arts, in Class 11. Science subjects include practical exams alongside the theory papers.
  • When. The written SSC and HSC papers are held in February and March, after the practicals and orals. Our SSC board exam guide covers the 2027 schedule; always check the board's latest circular on mahahsscboard.in for the final timetable.
  • Class 11 admission. In Pune, admission to Class 11 at junior colleges runs through a centralised online process with its own timetable, so watch for it from the end of Class 10.

Semi-English and Marathi-medium students

In semi-English schools, maths and science are taught in English and most other subjects in Marathi. That works well until a child understands a concept in one language and has to write about it in another. A good tutor checks that your child can explain a science idea in the language of the paper, builds subject vocabulary steadily, and makes sure language is never the reason marks are lost.

The bigger jump often comes after SSC. A student who studied in Marathi or semi-English and moves to English-medium science in Class 11 meets physics, chemistry and biology terms in English all at once. A few weeks of bridging work over the summer, reading the new textbooks with a tutor, makes the first term much calmer.

HSC, MHT-CET, JEE and NEET

MHT-CET, the state entrance test for engineering, pharmacy and related courses, is set on the Maharashtra syllabus for Classes 11 and 12. The CET Cell's published scheme has given about 20% of the weight to Class 11 and 80% to Class 12, with no negative marking, and pitches maths, physics and chemistry at the level of JEE Main and biology at the level of NEET. Check the CET Cell's information brochure for the 2027 pattern.

JEE Main and NEET are national exams whose syllabi broadly follow the NCERT curriculum. HSC science students aiming for them gain a lot from a tutor who knows where the state textbooks and NCERT differ and can fill the gaps without losing sight of board marks. Our guide to balancing Class 12 boards and entrance exams explains how to plan the two years.

What good State Board tuition looks like

  • Textbook first. Every chapter, activity and end-of-chapter exercise in the Balbharati book, before guides and digests.
  • Board-pattern practice. Regular, timed past papers from Class 9 onwards, gently at first and more often in the board year.
  • The internal 20 marks. Journals complete, projects submitted and orals practised out loud, because these marks are easy to lose by accident.
  • Explanations in the language your child thinks in, with exam answers practised in the language of the paper.
  • Honest planning in HSC science, balancing board marks with any entrance exam your child is preparing for.

How to choose an SSC or HSC tutor in Pune

  • They have taught SSC or HSC in the last two years and know the current textbook edition and paper pattern.
  • They are comfortable with your child's medium, and can explain in Marathi if your child needs it.
  • For HSC, they specialise in the subject rather than covering every subject.
  • They ask to see your child's school notebook and recent test papers in the first session.
  • They can come reliably at a time that works with school, and with Pune's evening traffic.

On TutorUp, choose State Board when you post a requirement, pick the class and subjects, and mention the medium (English, semi-English or Marathi) in the note, so verified tutors near your home know what they are taking on. The verification is an identity check done by a person on our team, on a short call or from a photo ID and a selfie. It is not a police or background check and not a judgement of teaching quality, so read how verification works and meet the tutor first. Our Kothrud and Shivajinagar and Deccan pages look at State Board and semi-English tuition in those neighbourhoods, and our comparison of all five boards helps if you are thinking about a switch.

Questions parents ask

What is semi-English medium?

In a semi-English school on the Maharashtra State Board, maths and science are taught in English and most other subjects in Marathi. It eases the move to English-medium science after Class 10, but children sometimes need help with subject vocabulary in English.

Is the Maharashtra State Board good enough for engineering and medicine?

Yes. HSC students sit JEE, NEET and MHT-CET like students of any other board, and MHT-CET is set on the state syllabus. For JEE and NEET, it helps to study the NCERT books alongside the state textbooks.

Can I find a home tutor who explains in Marathi?

You can ask for one. Mention the medium in your requirement and ask each tutor whether they are comfortable explaining in Marathi. TutorUp does not offer Marathi as a subject, but tutors for maths, science and other subjects can teach in the way your child understands.

When are the SSC and HSC board exams?

The written papers are held in February and March, after practicals and orals at school. The board publishes a timetable each year, so check the latest circular on mahahsscboard.in rather than forwarded messages.

Should my child switch from SSC to CBSE for Class 11?

It depends on the goal. HSC is set up for MHT-CET and works for JEE and NEET too, while some families prefer CBSE for its NCERT base. Whichever you choose, plan bridging work over the summer, especially if the medium of instruction changes.
