How Karve Nagar and Warje fit together
Karve Nagar sits between Kothrud and the Mutha river. It was once the village of Hingne and takes its name from Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, who started a home and a school for widows here in 1896. That work grew into the Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha (MKSSS), whose campus is still a well-known landmark.
Warje lies further south-west on the same river, with the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway (NH48) running through it. It was a village until it became part of the city in 2001, and Warje Malwadi in particular has filled with newer apartment societies since. If you are in Warje, a tutor will want to know which side of the highway you are on before anything else.
Schools and boards near Karve Nagar and Warje
Millennium National School, near Vanadevi Mandir in Karve Nagar, is CBSE-affiliated up to Class 12, and there are State Board schools across both Karve Nagar and Warje. If your child travels to a school in Kothrud or on Sinhagad Road instead, tell tutors the school's name as well as the board.
Two CBSE schools can pace Class 6 Maths quite differently, and two State Board schools can set very different unit tests. A recent test paper, shared at the demo, shows a tutor what your child's school actually asks.
The highway, the river and Warje Chowk: planning evening slots
Distance on a map is not the whole story here. A tutor coming from the Sinhagad Road side has to cross the Mutha, and one coming from across NH48 has to get over or under the highway. Warje Chowk, where Karve Road from Deccan meets the road out to Khadakwasla and the NDA, can be slow in the evening.
Two practical fixes help. First, prefer tutors whose route doesn't cross the highway at peak time. Second, if your child can start at 4:30pm or 5pm, say so in your requirement, because an earlier slot can bring in tutors who are busy at 6:30. For Karve Nagar families, tutors from Kothrud and Erandwane are often a short ride away along Karve Road.
PMPML buses from the Ganpati Matha bus station in Warje Malwadi run to Kothrud, Shivajinagar, Swargate and Pune Station, among other places, so a tutor without a two-wheeler is not ruled out. Ask how they would travel and how long it would take at your slot.
Choosing a home tutor in Warje or Karve Nagar
The National Defence Academy's land lies to the west of Warje, so your nearest tutors are more likely to be on the Karve Nagar, Kothrud or Sinhagad Road side than further out. Being flexible on timing often widens your choice more than raising your budget does. Before you book, run through this list.
- Tell tutors which side of the highway you are on and your nearest landmark, such as Warje Chowk, Ganpati Matha or the MKSSS campus.
- Ask how they will travel and how long it takes at your slot, not at midday.
- Name your child's school as well as the board and class.
- Book the demo at the real time of day you want classes to happen.
- Agree in advance how a late arrival or a missed session will be made up.
