What home tutor jobs in Pune look like on TutorUp
Each job starts as a requirement: a parent describing what their child needs. Requirements are sorted by real distance from you, nearest first.
| Field | What it shows | Before you apply |
|---|---|---|
| Board | CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, IB or Maharashtra State Board | Do you know this board's textbook, not just the subject? |
| Class | Anywhere from Nursery to Class 12 | Are you confident with the hardest chapters at this level? |
| Subjects | One subject, or several together such as Maths and Science | Can you teach all of them well? |
| Budget | What the family expects to pay each month | Is it close to your fee? |
| Timings | Morning, afternoon, evening or night | Does it fit your week, including your own exams or work? |
| Location | The family's area and how far it is from you | Can you reach them on time at 6 pm? |
You can narrow the list by distance, board, class and time of day. Parents can also find your profile and request a demo, so it keeps working while you're busy. How to get tuition students covers profiles, application notes and demo classes.
Who can apply for home tuition jobs in Pune
You need to be 18 or older, legally able to work as a private tutor in India, and confident in your subject at the level you'll teach. TutorUp doesn't ask for a B.Ed or any particular degree: verification checks who you are, and parents judge the rest. The work suits:
- College students teaching school subjects they're strong in, around lectures and their own exams.
- Homemakers who can teach in the afternoon or early evening, close to home.
- Teachers, including retired school teachers and coaching-class faculty.
- Working professionals teaching on weekday evenings or weekend mornings.
If you teach at a school now, check your contract and your school's rules first. Section 28 of the Right to Education Act, 2009 bars the teachers it covers from private tuition, and schools may have their own rules too. How to become a home tutor in Pune covers choosing subjects and classes.
What Pune parents look for, and how to show it
Pune families follow every board from Maharashtra State Board to IB, and plenty of children study in English while speaking Marathi or Hindi at home. If a board is new to you, read how CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, IB and State Board compare first. Parents see your card (name, photo, distance, experience, fee and rating), then look for answers to a few questions.
| What parents want to know | How to show it |
|---|---|
| Do you know our board? | List only the boards and classes you teach well, and name the chapters you've taught in your application note. |
| Will you turn up all year? | Offer only times you can keep through your own exams, and say how much notice you'll give if you can't come. |
| Are you close enough? | Apply mainly to families you can reach comfortably in evening traffic. |
| How do you explain things? | Offer a demo class and use it to find what the child is missing. |
| Can you explain it another way? | If you can switch to Hindi or Marathi when a child is stuck, say so in your bio. |
| Will you stay until the boards? | For Class 10 and 12, say honestly whether you can commit until the exams. |
Fees: you set them, families pay you directly
You put your monthly fee on your profile, and each requirement shows the family's monthly budget. The final figure, sessions per month and the missed-class rule are agreed between you and the family. TutorUp doesn't set fees, takes no commission and charges no lead fees.
Families pay you directly, by UPI, bank transfer or cash. TutorUp never handles tuition money, so it can't chase an unpaid fee for you: put what you agree, including the due date, in writing. For what drives a fair rate, read how much to charge for home tuition.
Getting verified before you apply
Before families can see your profile, a person on the TutorUp team checks who you are, either on a short video call or by reviewing both sides of a government photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence or passport) and a selfie you capture in the app. There is no automatic pass.
If your documents are sent back, you're told why, such as a blurred ID or a name that doesn't match your profile, and you can try again. Until you're verified you can browse requirements with the family's details hidden, but can't apply or accept a demo request.
It's an identity check, not a police verification or background check, so some parents may ask for your own police clearance certificate. How TutorUp verifies tutors explains what is and isn't checked.
Travel radius and evening slots in Pune
Tuition has to fit after school, so weekday evenings, roughly 4 pm to 9 pm, fill first. Those are also the hours when Pune's roads are slowest, particularly around the IT parks, so how far you travel decides how many students you can teach.
- Set your location where your evenings start. Distances are measured from the location on your profile, so use wherever you'll actually leave from: home, college or office.
- Start with a small radius. Look close to home first, and go further only for slots outside the evening rush.
- Fill an evening, not just a slot. Two families in one society let you teach back to back, with no ride in between.
- Ask about gate entry early. Many societies log visitors through MyGate or NoBrokerHood, and the family can pre-approve you.
- Think in distance, not municipal boundaries. TutorUp covers Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, and a tutor in Wakad can be closer to a family in Balewadi than to one in Nigdi.
Staying safe when you teach in someone's home
Families aren't ID-checked the way tutors are, so use your own judgement with a new one. TutorUp shows families your area and roughly how far away you are, never your home address, and phone numbers stay hidden until you've connected in the app.
- Meet a parent at the first class, and ask that an adult is at home for every session.
- Teach in a shared room, such as the living or dining area.
- Tell someone you trust each new family's address and your class times.
- Keep messages with the parent, not the child.
- Never pay to be given a student. A request for a "registration fee" is a red flag.
- If something feels wrong, leave. Report it in the app or to [email protected], and in an emergency call 112.
Freelance work, not a job with TutorUp
TutorUp doesn't employ tutors, pay salaries, assign students or direct how you teach. You're self-employed: you choose the families, hours, fee and number of students, with no salary slip, paid leave or PF, and you're responsible for the tax on what you earn.
Our terms set out what TutorUp is and isn't, and part-time tuition jobs in Pune covers fitting tuition around college, home or a day job.
