Pashan and Sus are two different trips for a tutor
Pashan is the settled side: Pashan Road, the research campuses on Dr Homi Bhabha Road, Pashan Lake and the old temple at Someshwarwadi, with Baner Hill to the north. Sus and Mahalunge lie on the far side of the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway. Both were villages until they were brought into Pune Municipal Corporation limits in 2021, and much of the housing there is new.
For home tuition, that difference is real. A tutor who lives in Pashan or Sutarwadi can usually reach the Pashan side quickly. Getting to a tower deep in Sus means the Pashan-Sus Road or New Sus Road and a highway crossing, a ride that gets slower at peak hours. Buses help less there too: Sutarwadi is one of the main PMPML stops on the Pashan side, but newer parts of Sus can be a long walk from the nearest bus.
Making home tuition in Sus and Mahalunge work
- Widen your search a little. If only a few tutors appear close by, post a requirement so tutors in Pashan, Baner or Balewadi can see it and apply.
- Offer fewer, longer sessions. Two 90-minute sessions a week cost a tutor half the travel of four 45-minute ones, which makes a far-off home easier to say yes to.
- Expect travel to show up in the fee. A tutor with a long ride each way may quote more than one down the road; our guide to home tuition fees in Pune explains what drives the number.
- Send a map pin, not just the society name. New projects off New Sus Road are not always mapped well, and a lost tutor eats into your child's hour.
- Ask whether a late slot works for their ride home, especially in the monsoon, and offer a weekend morning if it does not.
Schools and boards on this side of the city
In Sus, Vidya Valley School is affiliated to CISCE, so tutors who know the ICSE syllabus are relevant here. Homes in Mahalunge are closer to the CBSE schools around the Balewadi sports complex, which our Balewadi page lists. Children in Pashan and Sus also travel to schools in Baner, Aundh and Bavdhan, so match the tutor to your child's school board, not to where you live.
Because so much of Sus and Mahalunge is newly built, many families here have moved in recently, sometimes mid-year and sometimes with a change of school. If your child has switched boards or schools, say so when you post. A tutor who knows both the old and the new syllabus can spot the gaps a switch leaves, which matters more than extra hours.
Tutors from the research campuses and the university
Pashan is home to the National Chemical Laboratory and IISER Pune, both on Dr Homi Bhabha Road, and the university campus lies just to the east. Some tutors living nearby may be postgraduate students or researchers who teach in the evenings. That can suit a Class 11 or 12 student who wants depth in physics or chemistry.
Ask two things at the demo. First, have they taught a school syllabus recently? Research and board-exam teaching are different skills. Second, could their own lab hours, exams or the end of their programme leave your child without a tutor before the boards?
