What an online class on TutorUp is
An online class is a tutor teaching your child over video, on days and at times you agree: your child at home, the tutor wherever they live in India. It's the same kind of arrangement as home tuition - one tutor, your child, a fee you agree directly - without anyone travelling.
TutorUp's part is finding and checking the tutor. The class itself happens on a video service you both already use, such as Google Meet, Zoom or WhatsApp video: once the tutor accepts your demo request, the two of you agree the link in chat. TutorUp doesn't run the call, record it or give you a whiteboard.
Why families choose online classes
- No suitable tutor nearby. Outside Pune and PCMC, in a smaller town, or in a part of a city few tutors reach, online opens up tutors from all over India.
- A specialist for one subject or board. An IB Physics or IGCSE Chemistry tutor is far easier to find across the country than within a short ride of your home.
- No travel either way. Nobody rides through evening traffic, so a class can start on time and sit between school, sport and dinner.
- A wider choice. You compare every verified online tutor who teaches your child's class, not just the few who live close by.
Online isn't right for every child. Young children usually need someone beside them, and some children of any age focus better with a tutor in the room. Our guide to online tuition vs home tuition helps you decide, and plenty of families use both.
Who you'll see in the Online tutors list
Verified tutors who teach online, or both online and at home, from anywhere in India. Your Home in the app has an Online tutors row, and Search has an Online tab with the same board, class and time filters as the tutors near you.
The list is matched to your requirement. Your child's class counts most, then the board, your preferred times and your budget, and ratings break ties. Each card says where the tutor teaches from, such as Online · Lucknow, in place of a distance.
How you answer How should classes happen? decides which tutors see your requirement and can apply to it. Online shows it to verified online tutors anywhere in India; Either is fine shows it to them and to tutors near you who teach at home; At home keeps it to tutors nearby. You can change the answer on your requirement at any time.
Boards, classes and subjects
TutorUp covers CBSE, ICSE and ISC, Cambridge IGCSE, IB and State Board students, from Nursery to Class 12, online as at home.
CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE and IB follow the same syllabus wherever the school is, so a tutor in another state can teach your child's course. State boards differ from state to state, and TutorUp's State Board option follows the Maharashtra State Board, so if your child is on another state's board, name it in your requirement and ask each tutor whether they know its textbooks. Our guide to how the five boards compare explains the differences.
Subjects run from phonics, reading and EVS for younger children, through Maths, Science, English, Hindi and Social Studies, to Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science for older students, plus Economics, Accountancy and Business Studies.
How TutorUp checks every tutor
Before any tutor appears to families, online or at home, a person on the TutorUp team checks them: on a short video call, or by reviewing a photo ID and a selfie by hand. Tutors also share their latest mark sheet or degree certificate, and TutorUp asks for at least Class 12 passed.
That confirms who the tutor is and that the profile is theirs. It is not a police verification, a criminal-record or background check, or a judgement on how well someone teaches - that is what the demo is for. How TutorUp verification works explains the check in full.
Keeping online classes safe
A tutor on a screen in your home deserves the same care as one at your door. Set these habits at the first class:
- Keep messages in the TutorUp chat until you're comfortable sharing a phone number.
- Use a link from a service you know, such as Google Meet, Zoom or WhatsApp video, sent to a parent rather than the child.
- For a younger child, stay nearby for the whole class, and hold it in a shared room rather than a bedroom.
- Don't let anyone ask your child to install another app or move the class elsewhere without you.
- Agree whether classes may be recorded, and who keeps the recordings.
- Pay month by month once classes have begun, never a large sum upfront.
- If something feels wrong, tap Report this profile on the tutor's profile or write to [email protected]. In an emergency call 112, and report anything that happened online at cybercrime.gov.in.
Our home tutor safety checklist covers more, including red flags to watch for.
What online tuition costs
Each tutor shows their monthly fee on their profile, and you can add your budget to your requirement so tutors know what you have in mind. The final fee, the number of classes a month and what happens to a missed class are agreed between you and the tutor.
With no travel, an online class can cost less than the same class at home, but it doesn't always: fees still depend mostly on your child's class and board, the subjects, how many days a week and the tutor's experience. TutorUp doesn't set fees and has no separate price list for online classes.
You pay the tutor directly. UPI or a bank transfer leaves a record, which helps if there's ever a question about which month was paid. TutorUp never handles tuition money and takes no commission.
What's free on TutorUp, and what Pro adds
For parents, TutorUp is free to start. Without paying anything you can post requirements, browse verified tutors near you and online, open two tutors' full profiles and request a demo from them, and see who has applied to your requirement.
TutorUp Pro lets you open every profile, request a demo from any tutor, read applicants' notes, accept any application and chat with tutors in the app, which is where you and an online tutor agree the video link. It costs from ₹250 a month (₹2,999 billed yearly). The pricing page has the details. Tuition fees are separate: you pay the tutor directly.
