Privacy Policy

This policy covers tutorup.in and the TutorUp app at app.tutorup.in. TutorUp decides why and how your personal data is handled, which under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 makes us the data fiduciary for it.

What you give us:

• Your name, phone number and email address, so an account exists and someone can reach you.
• Your area or neighbourhood, so we can match on distance rather than sending you across the city.
• For families: the board, grade, subjects, budget and timings you are looking for.
• For tutors: subjects, boards, grades, experience, hourly rate, availability, how far you can travel, and anything else you choose to put on your profile.
• What you write to us, and what you write in reviews.

What we collect as you use it:

• Basic device and log information - browser, operating system, IP address, and what went wrong when something did.
• Approximate location, only if you allow it, to sort tutors by distance.
• Small amounts of data stored in your browser to keep you signed in and remember your preferences.

• To match families with tutors nearby and show each side what it needs to decide.
• To run the verification call and keep unverified profiles out of search.
• To keep people safe - investigating reports, and acting on accounts that break the rules.
• To answer you when you write to us.
• To fix what is broken and understand which parts of the product are used.
• To meet legal obligations, and to establish or defend legal claims.

We ask for your consent where the law requires it, and you can withdraw it as easily as you gave it.

TutorUp exists to find tutors for children, so this part matters more than most.

• Accounts belong to adults. A student under 18 does not create one; a parent or guardian does.
• We ask for the least we can about a child - usually a grade, a board and the subjects they need help with.
• We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from a child, and we do not use a child's data for behavioural tracking or targeted advertising.

If you believe a child has given us data directly, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.

• Families searching nearby see a verified tutor's profile: their subjects, boards, grades, rate, approximate distance, and their ratings.
• Tutors see the requirements families in their area have posted.
• Contact details are exchanged when one of you chooses to connect. Until then they stay with us.
• Reviews appear against a tutor's profile with the reviewer's first name.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. There is no version of TutorUp where your phone number is the product.

Like any small product, TutorUp is built on services it does not own: hosting and databases, sign-in, media storage and delivery, email and messaging, and basic product analytics. They handle personal data only on our instructions, only to do the job we have given them, and are contractually bound to protect it.

We share personal data outside that only when the law requires it - a valid order from a court or an authority - or where it is genuinely needed to prevent harm.

While your account is open, and for as long afterwards as we need it to settle disputes, meet a legal obligation, or keep someone we have removed from simply signing up again. After that it is deleted or anonymised.

Data is encrypted in transit, access is limited to the people who need it, and we review that access. No service can promise perfect security, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something - but if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.

You can ask us to:

• Tell you what personal data we hold about you and what we have done with it.
• Correct anything wrong, complete anything missing, or update anything out of date.
• Erase what we no longer need for the purpose you gave it for.
• Stop relying on consent you have withdrawn.
• Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you cannot.

If something about the way we handle your data is not right, our Grievance Officer will take it up: [email protected]. We aim to acknowledge within 48 hours and resolve within the timelines the law sets.

This marketing site sets nothing it does not need. The app stores what is required to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences on your own device. We do not run advertising trackers on either.

When the product changes, this changes with it. The date at the top tells you when it last did, and anything material will be brought to your attention rather than quietly published.
